Musqueam First Nation We are of One Hear and Mind

CANDO is excited to announce its partnership with the Musqueam First Nation in hosting the 18th Annual National Conference & AGM to be held on November 7-10, 2011 in Richmond, British Columbia. Musqueam was one of the four “Host Nations” along with Tsleil-Watuth, Sqaumish and Lil’wat that partnered with the 2010 Winter Olympic Games.

We have been present in our traditional territory for over 9,000 years. This territory is 144,888 hectares (358,026 acres) and includes all of present day Vancouver, extending north-west up Howe Sound and east up the Fraser Valley. Historically, we traveled far and wide and traded and inter-married with Nations up and down the coast of present day BC, Vancouver Island and in Washington State.

xwənəθət – our first ancestors – are said to have descended from the sky, wrapped in clouds, before there was anything else here. These supernatural beings populated the land until ce:l’s, the transformer, changed them into their present form as rocks, animals and features of the landscape that remain to this day.  Read the entire article here.
