IOG is a Canadian, non-profit think tank founding in 1990 to promote responsive and responsible governance both in Canada and abroad. IOG defines governance as the process whereby power is exercised, decisions are made, citizens or stakeholders are given voice, and account is rendered on important issues.
One of the principal conclusions of the 2003 evaluatin of the Community Economic Development Program is that some (but not all) economic development officers (EDOs) working on behalf of First Nation and Inuit communites need advice and information to carry out their responsiblities. To help deal with this gap, Indian and Northern Affairs (INAC) engaged the Institute On Governance to develop a document that will assist EDOs in achieving sustainable economic development for communities.
