Entrepreneurship Western Economic Diversification Canada (WD) collaborates with organizations and other levels of government to: - Increase entrepreneurship in rural and urban communities and communities of interest (e.g. aboriginal, women).
- Simplify the process of starting and growing a business enterprise.
- Increase access to business information, financing and other resources.
- Enhance business skills, management capacity, and small business leadership.
- Support the development of networks, clusters, and alliances to share knowledge, new ideas and technologies.
- Improve access to export and emerging markets for small businesses.
Community Economic Development: Economically Viable Western Canadian Communities with a High Quality of LifeWD helps increase the viability and diversification of local economies in Western Canada through a variety of programs and services, tailored to the region's own particular strengths, challenges and opportunities.
Western Development ProgramsWestern Economic Diversification Canada (WED) receives an annual allocation, approved by Parliament, for grants and contributions that support a wide range of programs responding to Western Canada's economic development needs and priorities.

Western Economic Diversification Canada's entrepreneurship initiatives support a competitive and expanded business sector in Western Canada. Although we do not provide funding directly to businesses, we support a network of community-based organizations that offer business information, small loans or assist with access to small business financing.
