NRCan seeks to enhance the responsible development and use of Canada's natural resources and the competitiveness of Canada's natural resources products. NRCan is an established leader in science and technology in the fields of energy, forests, and mineral and metals and use of expertise in earth sciences to build and maintain up-to-date knowledge based of landmass.
First Nations Forestry Program (FNFP) is a jointly funded by NRCan and INAC and delivered in partnership with First Nations. The FNFP provides funding and support to improve the capacity of First Nations to develop and sustainably manage the forest resources and to participate in and benefit from forest-based development opportunities. The purpose of this program is to improve the economic conditions in status First Nation communities with full consideration of the principles of sustainable forest management.
NRCan's Minerals and Metal Sector promotes sustainable development of minerals and metals, and Aboriginal participation in the mining industry. It also develops and distributes a number of information products on Aboriginal participation in exploration and mining.
First Nations Land Advisory Board provides information about the Framework Agreement on First Nations Land Management, legislation, member communities, and land codes.
NAFA promotes and support increased Aboriginal involvement in forest management and related commercial opportunities, while staying committed to holistic and multiple-use forestry, to build sustainable Aboriginal communities.
