Apeetogosan was incorporated in 1984 as an initiative of the MNAA to create an economic developmental tool to provide small business loans and advisory services to Metis entrepreneurs. The original funding was provided by the Canadian Aboriginal Economic Development Strategy (CAEDS) program with the shares of the corporation being held in trust for the MNAA. Apeetogosan now operates as a self-sufficient financial institution without any further operating subsidies.
