Timmins Aboriginal Services Programs Gap Analysis

Mar 17, 2011

TIMMINS, ON: The Timmins Economic Development Corporation (TEDC) is soliciting public opinion regarding the programs and services that are available to Aboriginal people in the Timmins-region. The survey is now available at www.timminsedc.com. The responses will help determine service-gaps, as well as possible ways to address them.

According to Statistics Canada, the Aboriginal community represents the fastest growing segment of the population in both Timmins and northeastern Ontario. TEDC recognizes that not all service needs of our diverse Aboriginal community may be met due to a variety of factors.

In clearly identifying service gaps and priorities, as recognized by both Aboriginal people and non-Aboriginal people, this project will assist in a community and regional needs assessment that will guide future development and program initiatives.

“This gap analysis project will help us better address the needs of our Aboriginal community, making Timmins a regional centre for Aboriginal programs and services. I encourage you to take time to complete the survey,” says Timmins Police Chief Richard Laperriere.

The Timmins Economic Development Corporation will also be hosting several focus groups with local Aboriginal service providers to more fully round out data gained from the survey.

The survey will be available until April 29th at www.timminsedc.com.
