THE CANDIDATE:
Working directly with Northwestel’s executive and senior management teams, this individual will implement strategies to build bridges internally and externally to enhance and support the framework of Northwestel’s Aboriginal strategy. The successful candidate will develop strong orientation across Northwestel’s business units and functions and further enhance the company’s ability and position to meet the needs of diverse Aboriginal customers in the North. He/she will be a highly respected individual who has the ability, understanding and passion, as well as the diplomatic skills, to network with the First Nations, Inuit and Métis communities, organizations and businesses and who understands the issues and challenges. This position will appeal to a self-starting individual, ready to embrace challenge, who can manage multiple projects and demonstrate sound judgement and decision making skills.
The successful candidate will have a proven track record of effective partnering and collaborative influence. As well, he/she will possess a post secondary education in marketing, business administration, commerce or other related discipline, with several years of successful experience working at a senior level, or an equivalent combination of education and experience with:
•Significant knowledge and depth of Canada’s northern Aboriginal communities, issues, traditions, protocols, and cultures;
•Excellent business development experience (cost/benefit analysis, business acumen, etc.)
•Experience providing leadership to virtual teams in pursuit of goals and objectives;
•Demonstrated successful experience building and maintaining effective working relationships and networks with Aboriginal communities in the North as well as corporate executives, sr. managers and boards of directors;
•Ability to communicate complex information to a wide variety of audiences and act as Northwestel’s spokesperson on Aboriginal matters;
•Demonstrated effective interpersonal and communications skills both verbal and written;
•Knowledge of Northwestel and an understanding of the telecommunication industry are definite assets; and
•Preference will be given to Aboriginal candidates.
