Jack Blacksmith

Mr. Jack R. Blacksmith is the Chairman of the CNG Board of Compensation, an entity created under the James Bay Northern Quebec Agreement (JBNQA) of 1975, whose responsibility is to receive, administer, use and invest the compensation received from the JBNQA. By virtue of his chairmanship, Mr. Blacksmith is also the President of the Cree Regional Economic Enterprises Company (“CREECO”). Mr. Blacksmith has served the Board of Compensation and CREECO for over 20 years, which includes 14 years as Chairman/President and he has many years of work experience in economic development throughout various local, regional and national organizations. He is also the President of the limited partnership of Eeyou Power LP, whose objectives are proceeding with the production and sale of renewable energy to promote economic, technological, social and cultural development of the Crees to support the sustainable development of Eeyou Istchee. Mr. Blacksmith was also the President of the Cree Mineral Exploration Board (“CMEB”) for several years. Under his presidency, the CMEB steadily grew, as a regional entity for the benefit of the Cree, to access opportunities and knowledge in the mining industry. He has been married to his beautiful wife Hattie, for 30 years and they have 4 daughters and 10 grandchildren.
