The Grand Council has twenty members: a Grand Chief and Deputy-Grand Chief elected at large by the Eeyouch, the chiefs elected by each of the nine Cree communities, and one other representative from each community. The present Grand Chief is Matthew Mukash and the Deputy Grand Chief is Ashley Iserhoff. The Council’s head office is in the Cree community of Nemaska, although it also has offices in Montreal and Ottawa.
Tewatohnhi'saktha (Kahnawake Economnic Development Commission) is an umbrella entity to promote economic development for the community. It was created by legislation passed by the Mohawk Council of Kahnawake on May 10, 1999 and came into effect on June 10, 1999. Tewatohnhi'saktha operates at arm’s length from the MCK; however, it is accountable to them and to the community for its action and results.
