How familiar should or shall an EDO be with First Nation issues?
Very familiar because it provides context and background understanding to the issues and most EDOs or community members are well versed because they work within this environment and community - they have practical skills and experience.
Will these competencies I receive help in areas other than economic development?
Yes, for example accounting, social issues, finances, are all skills that are transferable.
What type of support service is available?
Education and Research Managers, Committees' and EDO Peers.
What is the job of the Education and Research Managers?
The Education and Research Managers assists the candidate in preparing the file of completed competencies to go before the Standing Committee on Education and Research Committee for final approval for Certification.
How much is the total cost of the TAED and PAED Certification Process?
$99.00 Coupon fee (TAED only - includes membership, transcript review and publication) and Prior Learning Assessment fee (both TAED and PAED Grandparent -non-refundable $75 is required for PLA in addition to the $99 coupon fee).
How long will Certification take?
It is up to the individual, as it is a self-paced process.
Are there any pre-requisites for the Technician Level Process of Certification?
There are not and you do not need to have completed secondary school or university.
Will my transcripts be reviewed if I don't pay my fees?
No, only paid Certification fees will allow a review to occur.
What is the format of instruction?
It is up to the individual to prove competencies by transcripts, prior learning assessment or taking an accredited program.
Courses need to come from whom and do I have to pass?
Courses need to originate from an institution that provides transferable courses and you need to pass with a grade that is determined by institution.
Can Cando request transcripts from my university?
No, only the student can request the transcripts from the university to be forwarded to Cando for assessment purposes.
For an Individual Assessment does a supervisor or instructor needs to provide a letter verifying learning and attendance?
Yes, a letter of confirmation from employers.
Who does the assessment of my Certification file?
The Education and Research Managers and Committee do the assessments.
Does each competency individually get sent to the Committee?
No, an entire completed file of the 16 competencies goes before the Committee.
How can you verify Prior Learning Assessment?
A past supervisor, or instructor can draft a letter verifying your learning to details the skills and experience you gained.
What is a learning narrative?
A learning narrative is a one-page summary of what you learned and how you did it. Used for the prior learning assessment process.
How does the Prior Learning Assessment get determined?
The Education and Research Managers goes before the Committee who are trained on how to assess by Cando, as well they are rooted in experience as EDOs. PLA Committee members have to excuse themselves if they know the person being assessed.
What happens after you are certified at the technician level? Additional training?
Professional Aboriginal Economic Developer designation offered as well and then maintenance of your Certification status.
